Crypt0L0cker ransomware - updated variant of torrentlocker

Dear Stardot Customer,

In the last 2 days we have had a number of instances of a new virus called Crypt0L0cker.

This is a very nasty ransomware virus that encrypts your files and issues a demand for approximately $400 to unlock your files. Even if you pay the ransom it is unknown/unlikely that the perpetrators of this threat will unlock your files.

To protect yourself please make sure that you have an adequate up to date antivirus solution.

Note though, that the infections we have seen were on PCs that had some form of antivirus scanner, and it is not yet clear which solutions will protect you from this threat.

Most importantly do not open any email attachments from unknown senders.

The most common emails purport to be from the “Australian Federal Police” (AFP), another was  as a C.V. sent by a supposed job applicant.

Also make sure your data is regularly backed up so that if you do get infected you have the ability to recover your files.

At present we have no way of decrypting your files so please be vigilant.
